Treasures & Tastes @ Trinity Market – Surrey Hills, VIC

My love for Surrey Hills just exploded even more this morning after attending the Treasures @ Tastes @ Trinity Market this morning. The sun was out and Union Road Surrey Hills was buzzing with people enjoying their Saturday mornings at the local cafe’s, bakeries, toy shops and Organic Grocer.

The Treasures @ Tastes @ Trinity Market is located inside the Holy Trinity Anglican Church, just past Surrey Hills train station and is held on the 3rd Saturday of every month.

2016 Market Dates
2016 Market Dates

There is parking on union road or around the surrounding streets and there is no entry fee. You will find mainly hand knitted items, hand crafted jewellery and gift ware, candles, jams, preserves, eggs, plants, home baked goodies and sweets, cards and other handmade items. There is a bacon and egg roll stand and a devonshire tea room out the back serving hot drinks, scones with jam and cream and other yummy cakes.

Getting my pram with twins and a toddler into the hall was super easy with ramp access up to the market hall and so many friendly stall holders and shoppers all offering to help me with doors and maneuvering around corners.

Take cash with you. Majority of the stalls don’e have EFTPOS facilities and you’ll be kicking your self for missing out on all the things that catch your eye.

20160716_114129.jpg

From the street up to the hall I passed hundred’s of gorgeous plants and tree’s for sale, a table full of home made cushions, locally bottled Award Winning honey by Peter Adams, some wine, olives and olive oils and the Bacon & egg roll stand. The perfect excuse to get up early head to the market on an empty tummy.

The Treasures & Tastes @ Trinity Market is a paradise for hand knitted items! I wish I had known about this market when my twins were born at 34 weeks as there are so many gorgeous hand knitted cardigans, booties, beanies and clothes perfect for premature sized babies.

I had barely even made it through the door when I spotted my first purchase. Next to the warm hand knitted scarves at Scarves by Andrea’s stall, I spotted a stall selling gorgeous good quality hand knitted jumpers. Such a bargain with most items under $30. It will fit him probably for the next 2 winters and is so well made as well as warm and cozy. I didn’t catch her name but she is at the market every month with a stall full of knitted garments from newborns through to school age.

20160716_104943
Scarves by Andrea: The softest, warmest scarves I seen. Much better than any you would find in the shops!

There was so much local talent showcased at this market. Handmade birthday cards, jewellery, soy candles, oils, apple strudels, quiches, sweets, tea cosy’s, clothing, baby decor and preserves.

My favourite stalls (where I spent all my money) were the hand knitted items, homemade vanilla slices, handmade cards with all original photography by Helen Sparrow, the dribble bibs and handmade soft toys by Oh Sew Sweet, the handmade felt necklaces and little animals by Aurinko Designs and the Butterfield Farm stall.

The Butterfield Farm stall was all run by the family of the makers of the items and was full of so many jams, cakes and preserves all made up in Emerald. I had a hard time picking which ones to buy as they all looked incredibly delicious.

The lovely Maureen even gave me tips on what meats and foods they went best with (thank-you Maureen). I had unfortunately missed out on the fresh eggs which I hear sold out in the first 1-0 minutes. All 60 dozen cartons of them! I will be back each and every month just to buy more products from these guys. Maybe over a year I will have had a chance to try them all.

20160716_10232220160716_10233220160716_10242320160716_102553

Once you’re ready for morning tea, there is a Devonshire Tea room out the back serving hot drinks, scones with jam and cream (Jam is donated by Butterfield Farm and is delicious) and an array of homemade cakes. The perfect place to rest your feet, meeting place to catch up with family and friends and have a bite to eat before seeing the rest of the stalls.

I will definitely be back next month however next month I’ll make sure I am there at 9am on the dot so that I don’t miss out on the eggs and I’ll grab myself an egg and bacon roll and coffee from the market for brekky, have a shop around the market and then head to one of the local cafe’s for lunch.

My purchases from the day: The gorgeous hand knitted jumper, the most amazing vanilla slice I have ever eaten (luckily there were 2 so hubby could try some too) beautiful handmade cards and some Spicy Tomato Chutney from Butterfield Farm which I’ll be enjoying tonight with my lamb cutlets

SUNDAY MARKETS: Melbourne – 17th July 2016

For Saturday markets, see Melbourne Markets: SATURDAY 16th July 2016

It’s tradition in my household for my husband to get up at the rise of dawn on a Sunday morning and head out to the local Trash & Treasure market to see what bargains he can find. When he gets home he can’t wait to tell me about his morning of negotiations and how low he managed to get an item down to from its original asking price.

Thousands of others will be rising nice and early with the sun this Sunday to head out to some of Melbourne’s most iconic Trash & Treasure Markets including the Coburg, Dandenong, Thomastown and Wantirna Trash & Treasure markets.

There will be lots of fun for the whole family with face painting, children’s activities live music and entertainment at the Little Me Market in Wangaratta as well the opportunity to shop from hundreds of unique handcrafted or handmade gifts from the Merbein Street Market at Abbottsford Convent, Nic Nac Paddy Whack Market in Berwick and Williamstown Craft Market.

It’s Tax Time!!

Yup! It’s that time of year again! TAX Time!

We have found ourselves once again, for the third time in 6 years, in search of a new tax accountant as our regular one (who we were spending 2 hours over the phone with as she worked in Geelong) has moved on from the company she was working for.

I posted on a Facebook noticeboard yesterday asking for recommendations of someone local who works from home and could come and see us after 7pm and within minutes someone posted this flyer that had been put in their mailbox last week!

PRAYERS ANSWERED! #LittleGuysHelpingLittleGuys #ThankYouFacebook #IanMorella

Ian Morella

Not only is he more experienced than our previous accountant but he is coming to us after 7pm during the week when all 3 of our kids will be asleep. He is self employed and working from home so we won’t be searching for a new accountant due to staff turnover (which is approximately every 3.3 years according to recent studies.) He is also $81 per person more affordable than our last accountant #Winning

I know we are not the only ones in this situation and that there are hundreds if not thousands of other people out there like us, looking for a tax accountant that is local and has the flexibility to see them either within or outside of business hours (and while kids are sleeping!)

I would love to promote our local self employed tax accountants running their businesses from home over the coming weeks so that all the hundreds and thousands of others who are in the same boat as I was can find you and get in touch.

Searching for a local tax accountant then finding the time to meet up shouldn’t have to be a stressful and time consuming tedious task with the amount of little guys in our areas. We just need to find them!

If you are a local self employed tax accountant running your business from home or you know someone who is, please get in touch with us via the ‘Contact Us’ page, by commenting below or send us a PM via our facebook page.

HAPPY TAX TIME EVERYONE!

Who are “The Little Guys?”

The little guys are everyday, ordinary people like you and me running home businesses and/or supporting them. We all know a little guy. They are our parents, brothers, sisters, friends, children, cousins, grandparents, aunties, uncles and our neighbours.

You could be wanting to escape the 9-5 rat race, make some extra cash on the side or pursuing an idea, dream or passion.

Our communities are full of little guys selling handmade or homemade products from home, online, or at local craft markets and farmers markets. Listing their products on eBay, ETSY, Gumtree, Instagram, Facebook and many other online platforms.

The little guys are also our qualified tradespeople such as plumbers and electricians working for themselves.  They are people offering their services cleaning, babysitting, walking dogs, tutoring, making cakes or even teenagers washing cars for extra pocket money on a weekend.

Just as importantly, little guys are also the ones supporting all of these home businesses. The people who get up on a weekend to go to local markets and discover handmade and homemade items such as jewelery, gifts, clothing, candles, artwork and other unique items. The ones who love the local farmers markets and buy local produce such as fruit and veggies, eggs, jams, chutneys, pasta, sauces, chocolates, sweets, cheeses, wines and meats.

“Little Guys. Big Communities. Making A Difference!”

WHO AM I & THE STORY BEHIND ‘THE LITTLE GUYS.’

I am a wife, a shopaholic, a mum of 3 under 18 months and I live in Australia’s most liveable city, Melbourne!

I find myself forever sharing things on Facebook such as friends businesses, events, all the local produce I’ve been eating (particularly cheeses, wines, brownies, doughnuts, chutneys and anything else delicious) as well as unique handmade items such as baby bibs and clothes. I don’t mind paying more for unique items made by local everyday people.

I love to shop, I love my food, writing and I’m passionate about helping others and so ‘The Little Guys’ was born. A way for me to bundle all my passions into one. Discover new businesses and products, shop, eat lots of local produce, shop more, promote local trades and services and promote home businesses, shop more, eat some more and then write all about it.

Anyhow, enough about me, I want to know more about you and your home business. I’m sure there are people on your friends list, in your community, at your work, in your apartment block or street who would all be supporting your business over the big guys if only they all knew about your business!
